Job Description

Panda Restaurant Group, Inc., widely known as Panda Express, is a renowned American Chinese restaurant concept headquartered in Glendale, California. Founded in 1983, Panda Express has grown to become the largest family-owned Asian dining chain in the United States, boasting nearly 2,800 locations worldwide. The company prides itself on delivering exceptional Asian dining experiences and fostering a work culture that emphasizes family values, career development, and community involvement. The organization's mission is not only to delight customers with flavorful, fresh dishes but also to inspire employees to improve their lives through meaningful work and supportive leadership. Panda Restaurant Group places great importance on building vibrant, inclusive environments where associates can thrive and contribute positively to the brand’s legacy.

The position of Panda Cook is a vital leadership role within the company’s dynamic kitchen team. This role is integral to maintaining the quality, consistency, and overall atmosphere that guests have come to expect from Panda Express. Serving as the heart of the kitchen, Panda Cook associates are entrusted with preparing dishes according to company recipes and standards with both passion and precision. In this capacity, the Cook creates a welcoming and vibrant environment for guests and supports the development of the kitchen team by assisting with training and guiding other associates. The Cook handles all Back of House responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to work efficiently without compromising accuracy or food safety standards.

This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a growth-oriented, team-focused setting and who value hands-on work that directly impacts the dining experience. Starting pay ranges from $26 to $29 per hour, depending on location and experience, reflecting the company’s commitment to rewarding its employees fairly. Full-time positions come with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and opportunities for career advancement. Flexible schedules and free meals during working hours are additional perks that support work-life balance and employee well-being.

Panda Express operates kitchens that can be hot and noisy, requiring staff to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and handling specialized kitchen equipment like Chinese cook knives. Associates must be capable of working in an environment that may involve steam, food vapors, and limited workspace. Strong verbal communication skills, adaptability to changing priorities, and the ability to manage conflicts or difficult situations are essential competencies for success in this role. Panda Express is committed to equal opportunity employment and provides workplace accommodations as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act, ensuring an inclusive hiring process and work environment.

Joining Panda Express means becoming part of a family-oriented company that values diversity, development, and community impact. Whether it is engaging with team members, supporting local initiatives, or progressing through leadership programs, being a Panda Cook offers more than a job—it offers a career path filled with growth, respect, and purpose.
