Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED
- two years of cooking experience
- valid driver's license
- ability to obtain Texas driver's license within 90 days if out-of-state
- food manager's certification within 30 days of hire
- CPR certification within three months of hire
- first aid certification within three months of hire
- pass criminal background check
- pass motor vehicle record check
- pass drug screening
- pass physical exam
- availability to work additional hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- ability to work in emergency situations
- willingness to provide proof of education and certifications if hired
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED
- two years of experience in a related cooking role
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
- ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment
- effective teamwork and communication skills
- attention to detail and manual dexterity
- basic math skills for recipe conversions
Job Duties
- understand written and verbal instructions for food preparation and convert recipes to correct quantities for daily meal counts
- slice and prepare a variety of food items including fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, and cake
- use electric and manual can openers to open cans
- operate commercial immersion blender, electric and manual can openers, industrial steamer, and conventional ovens
- cook in gas and electric ovens
- prepare food in large roasting pans on top of the range
- mix, measure, and combine a variety of ingredients
- adjust cooking temperature and speeds and use large utensils to stir and mix
- load and unload pans onto carts and into warmers weighing up to 25 pounds
- transfer prepared food and pack correct portions in bulk quantities for multiple Senior Centers and Nutrition Sites
- keep record of temperature logs for every menu item prepared
- clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces and equipment according to health department and HACCP regulations
- sanitize pots and utensils using appropriate cleaning products and tools
- take out trash to outside dumpster on utility carts
- work with kitchen crew to achieve department standards on food service inspection reports
- follow all rules and regulations relating to sanitation and food safety
- record items taken out of inventory and assist kitchen lead with weekly counts
- monitor taste, texture, color, and smell of food during preparation
- read pocket thermometer and monitor all five senses and manual dexterity
