Job Description
This job opening is for the position of Cook at an established restaurant. The restaurant operates in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, specializing in preparing and serving quality food products to customers. As a prominent establishment in the foodservice industry, the restaurant is committed to maintaining high standards of operational excellence and customer satisfaction through its dedicated team of kitchen and service staff.
As a Cook, the individual will be an essential part of the culinary team, responsible for cooking, preparing, and packaging food products according to operational and quality standards. The Cook will operate various cooking stations such as the dresser, front swamp, back swamp, grill, and food preparation stations as assigned. This role requires the ability to follow company policies and procedures meticulously to ensure consistency, food safety, and high-quality output in every dish served.
The position is designated as nonexempt and reports directly to the Manager on Duty (MOD). It is a part-time role that often involves working irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, which requires flexibility and a strong commitment to the role. The Cook is expected to maintain regular attendance and perform regular cleaning and sanitation duties. These include handling trash disposal, mopping, sweeping, washing dishes and food preparation tools, wiping counters, sanitizing food preparation areas, cleaning cooking equipment, and properly disposing of grease.
Additional responsibilities include reporting any customer or employee complaints or issues to the Manager on Duty, moving and stocking food products weighing up to 50 pounds, and performing other job-related duties as assigned or needed. The work environment is physically demanding, involving continuous standing, bending, reaching, moving, stooping, stretching, and lifting in a restaurant setting. The Cook will frequently be exposed to heat and hot liquids while cooking, and to cold temperatures when stocking food items in freezers. Occasionally, the role may involve exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions depending on operational needs.
This role requires a set of basic yet essential skills including general restaurant or retail knowledge, basic math and reading skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow directions, and strong multi-tasking abilities to manage the fast-paced kitchen environment. Performance in this role directly impacts the quality of the food served and overall customer satisfaction, making it a vital position within the restaurant team. The restaurant values teamwork, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude towards ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen operation.
The restaurant community offers an inclusive, engaging, and supportive workplace for individuals who are passionate about food preparation and eager to develop or enhance their culinary skills. By joining as a Cook, candidates will gain valuable experience in food safety, kitchen operations, and customer service, while contributing to the success and reputation of the restaurant. This role is ideal for individuals seeking part-time employment with flexibility and a hands-on, active work environment.
