The Cook position at Great Park Ice is an essential part-time, event-based role, ideal for individuals passionate about culinary arts and hospitality. Starting at $21.00 per hour, this role supports the kitchen operations by assisting chefs and other kitchen personnel. Due to the event-driven nature of the venue, work hours fluctuate based on the arena’s event schedule, requiring flexibility and adaptability from the successful candidate. As a Cook, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper preparation and handling of food items according to established recipes and health regulations. You will maintain temperature controls, monitor food quality, and practice rigorous sanitation standards. A strong focus will be placed on understanding food allergens and applying FIFO (first in, first out) inventory methods to ensure food safety and freshness. Communication and interaction with guests and team members are fundamental to delivering outstanding hospitality at Great Park Ice.

The role demands a comprehensive knowledge of all menu items and ingredients, and the ability to navigate and support various kitchen stations as needed. You will also contribute by assisting other Food and Beverage departments and coordinating with operations teams to meet event standards. This role requires someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and a collaborative team player, capable of responding efficiently to the dynamic demands of a busy sports and entertainment complex.

Job Requirements

  • less than high school education

Job Duties

  • have a full understanding of temperature controls and the proper equipment to monitor temperature by completing daily time and temperature logs for the station worked
  • ensure accurate labeling, dating, and rotating using the FIFO method for all raw and prepped food products
  • know the eight most common food allergens and follow standards set by Great Park Ice and Sports Complex for milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, soybeans
  • follow recipe guidelines to prepare food based on the current menu
  • practice proper work procedures, safety, and sanitation standards
  • engage with venue guests as well as team members to ensure exceptional hospitality is always provided and received
  • maintain food temperatures, food quality, and appearance of prepared food to established standards
  • know all menu items, ingredients, and how they are prepared
  • have a good understanding of the arena and be able to navigate it and assist guests with directions
  • support any other Food & Beverage departments as needed
  • work with operations counterparts to ensure event standards of service are reached
  • other duties or tasks as assigned by supervisors and/or managers
