Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or above
  • must be able to use the English language to satisfy communications and record keeping requirements
  • must maintain neat, well-groomed appearance adhering to dress code
  • must satisfy all established licensing and certification requirements applicable
  • must be able to safely perform all essential job functions without harm to self or others
  • must comply with facility's drug testing and substance abuse program and policies

Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience as cook
  • ability to read and follow recipes and food production records
  • familiar with food safety and sanitation standards
  • knowledge of kitchen equipment operation
  • good communication skills in English
  • ability to work cooperatively with staff and residents
  • ability to supervise dietary aides
  • completed relevant training or certification as applicable
  • adherence to facility dress code and conduct policies

Job Duties

  • Review menu, assemble food supplies and equipment for daily food production
  • follow recipes and production records to prepare assigned menu items
  • read menu to determine food requirements and retrieve food from storage
  • adjust thermostat controls for ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles
  • bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods
  • observe and test food for quality and doneness
  • prepare menu items using established food production systems
  • follow lead cook or supervisor instructions for batch cooking
  • monitor food quality, temperature, and accuracy
  • set up and place food items on tray line and food service areas
  • assist in kitchen procedures and food distribution flow
  • record statistics to maintain production system integrity
  • maintain sanitation, safety, and equipment care
  • report equipment problems and spoiled food
  • participate in educational programs and in-service training
  • comply with facility policies and federal, state regulations
  • clean assigned areas and supervise kitchen employees as needed
  • complete record keeping forms and time clock use
  • assist in training new staff
  • follow cleaning procedures and safe use of cleaning agents
  • work cooperatively with residents, families, and staff
  • use and care for equipment and supplies properly
  • follow all safety, security, infection control, and hazardous materials policies
  • ensure resident rights are maintained
  • maintain confidentiality of resident information
