Job Description
The prestigious New York Athletic Club (NYAC), established in 1868, stands as one of the world’s most distinguished private clubs. Located prominently on Central Park South in Manhattan, NYAC offers an exclusive environment for its members to enjoy an impressive range of athletic, social, and dining experiences. Renowned for its rich history and dedication to excellence, the club has built a reputation as a premier destination that combines tradition with modern amenities. The NYAC remains committed to fostering a vibrant community where members can engage in sports, social activities, and fine dining, all set within an elegant and welcoming atmosphere.
We are currently seeking a spirited and enthusiastic Cook to join the esteemed NYAC culinary team. This role is a fantastic opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about food preparation and eager to contribute to the club’s high standards of service excellence. The Cook will be responsible for accurately and efficiently preparing a variety of dishes, including meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products. This position involves not only cooking but also the preparation and portioning of food products prior to cooking, ensuring meticulous attention to detail in every plate that leaves the kitchen.
The ideal candidate will have between 1 to 3 years of professional cooking experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment and demonstrate knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures. While culinary training or certification is a plus, it is not mandatory for consideration. This position demands a high level of adaptability, decision-making skills, and energy, as well as a commitment to maintaining proper food handling, sanitation, and safety protocols. The Cook will work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and exceptional quality in food presentation, including proper plating and garnishing of all hot menu items.
Work schedule for this role includes shifts from Saturday through Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with days off rotating between Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday based on business needs. This provides a consistent and structured work schedule while allowing for some flexibility. Physical requirements include the ability to reach, bend, stoop, frequently lift up to 40 pounds, and endure standing for long periods of time, making physical stamina and strength important qualifications. Joining NYAC as a Cook means becoming part of a historic club that values culinary excellence and offers a dynamic work environment where skills can grow and thrive.
