The Contract Event Planner position for the 2027 Zebra Run represents a critical role within the United MSD Foundation. This is a part-time, project-based independent contractor opportunity running from August 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027, offering a flat fee of $5,000 paid in four installments. This remote work-from-home role requires residency in the Ocean Springs/Biloxi region to support local meetings and full on-site involvement during the event weekend on March 13, 2027.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced event planner with a high level of energy and strong organizational skills. They will lead every aspect of the Zebra Run event from inception through execution, working closely with the Executive Director to ensure seamless project management and successful event delivery. Responsibilities include overseeing event logistics such as permits, vendor contracts, equipment rentals, and race day operations. The planner also manages volunteer committees, sponsors, and marketing collaborations while ensuring all components align with the foundation's goals and community standards.

Key aspects of the role also involve proactive communication and stakeholder management, serving as the main liaison for participants, volunteers, vendors, and sponsors. Job Duties

  • Monitor and manage the Zebra Run email inbox responding to inquiries from participants volunteers and partners
  • maintain the event timeline updating milestones and tracking deadlines
  • draft committee meeting agendas distribute meeting notes and update relevant spreadsheets including sponsor trackers and event statistics
  • serve as the main point of contact for all event logistics and act as on-site director on race day
  • manage permits route logistics vendor contracts timing company equipment rentals and event signage
  • oversee event setup teardown and volunteer deployment on race day
  • lead and manage the local volunteer event committee delegating assignments for pre-event and race-day tasks
  • issue sponsor pledges and invoices solicit local businesses for sponsorships and in-kind donations manage sponsor benefits fulfillment including logos on shirts signs and media
  • lead post-event sponsor stewardship sending impact reports and thank-you notes
  • partner with marketing staff to drive race registration and peer-to-peer fundraising promotions
  • assist in coordinating local media outreach distribution of promotional materials and community calendar listings
