The role of the Compounding Pharmacist at Hims & Hers involves supervising all compounding activities within the compounding laboratory. This position is vital for ensuring the highest quality and safety standards in the preparation of compounded medications. Reporting to the Head Compounding Pharmacist and Pharmacist-In-Charge, the Compounding Pharmacist oversees pharmacy technicians and support personnel to foster an efficient and compliant work environment. Key responsibilities include performing comprehensive checks throughout the compounding process, verifying formula and compounding records, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and internal regulations such as USP, FDA, and relevant Boards of Pharmacy.

The Compounding Pharmacist is integral in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement initiatives, establishing standard operating procedures, training materials, and handling regulatory audits. This role demands a strong safety-first mindset to work with hazardous drugs and maintain a clean, compliant workspace. The position offers a $9 per hour shift differential and has working hours from 5:30 pm to 4:00 am, with flexible shifts available to accommodate different availabilities. The ideal candidate will be adept at working in fast-paced settings, able to use delicate machinery, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional and remote teams. This position also contributes to patient safety by conducting patient consultations, error documentation, and drug utilization reviews to provide a world-class pharmacy experience.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or doctorate degree in pharmacy
  • active pharmacist license in Arizona
  • 2+ years of pharmacist experience
  • strong math skills
  • must be able to undergo respirator fit testing
  • must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • must be capable of working with small, delicate pieces of expensive machinery to complete appropriate dosage forms in a timely manner
  • must be able to work cross-functionally with remote teams
  • must be able to lift at least 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • able to work flexible shift times
  • proficiency in English, verbal and written
  • proficiency in windows based computer systems
  • willingness to complete external training as required

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Doctorate degree in Pharmacy
  • active pharmacist license in Arizona
  • effective knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws, rules and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy
  • 2+ years of pharmacist experience
  • strong math skills
  • knowledge of all principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures pertaining to compounding specifically USP and other USP general chapters
  • proficiency in English, verbal and written
  • proficiency in Windows based computer systems
  • mail service/mail order pharmacy experience a plus
  • multi-state licensure is preferential

Job Duties

  • Directly supervise all compounding personnel namely pharmacy technicians and essential pharmacy support personnel
  • perform and accurately document compounding procedures, quality assurance/quality control checks, and dispensing of compounded preparations
  • verify formula records, compounding records, beyond use dates, and finished compounded products
  • assist in the training and evaluation of compounding personnel
  • coordinate the calibration, maintenance, and use of equipment to compound prescription orders and monitor the compounding environment in conjunction with the maintenance team
  • follow all safety, USP, BOP, and internal guidelines for the preparation of compounded medications
  • maintain a safety-first mindset and ensure precautions are taken in all compounding activities within the lab, including when working with hazardous chemicals in accordance with USP and applicable laws
