The Community Relations Coordinator role is a full-time position reporting directly to the Director of Marketing. This pivotal role is responsible for developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with various target market segments, community groups, members, military organizations, and the public. The coordinator will play an essential part in enhancing the museum's reputation, visibility, and community involvement through strategic outreach, communications, events, and social media management.

Key functions of the Community Relations Coordinator include managing constituent communications such as website updates and email campaigns, representing the museum at local events and speaking engagements, and coordinating outreach opportunities. The position involves collaboration with multiple departments to align community relations strategies with overall marketing efforts. The coordinator will also support media relations by drafting press releases, managing media contacts, and assisting with interviews and publicity initiatives. A significant component of this role includes supporting the museum’s membership program by processing renewals and organizing member-exclusive events.

Additionally, the Coordinator will oversee military relations, including managing group sales for military organizations, coordinating ceremonies aboard the museum ship, and providing onsite logistical support. The role also extends to assisting with special events and programs, including technology and sponsorship support. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are critical for success in this position.

Candidates are expected to have professional experience in community relations, marketing, communications, event coordination, or related fields, along with excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. A working knowledge of digital content development platforms like Canva, Constant Contact, and WordPress is essential, as is familiarity with audiovisual equipment. The ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as event needs dictate is required.

Job Requirements

  • Valid Texas driver's license and an insurable driving record
  • ability to obtain Youth Protection Training Certification upon employment

  • minimum of two years professional experience in community relations or related field

Job Duties

  • Assist with constituent communications including website updates and e-blast development
  • represent the USS Lexington Museum at community events and speaking engagements
  • identify coordinate and participate in community outreach opportunities and events
  • prepare reports and maintain records related to community relations activities and initiatives
  • coordinate promotional item purchases inventory and VIP welcome materials
  • prepare and coordinate delivery of donor thank-you letters
  • maintain the Museum's presence on local and regional community calendars
  • welcome orient and follow up with visiting groups and organizations
  • receive review process and fulfill donation requests and maintain records
  • process bulk ticket sales for groups and organizations
  • collaborate with the Graphics Artist to develop social media content
  • develop social media posting schedules monitor engagement and respond to interactions
  • create manage and maintain Facebook event pages for Museum programs and special events
  • track engagement trends and audience feedback
  • draft and distribute press releases media alerts statements and other communications
  • coordinate media opportunities involving staff volunteers programs exhibits and events
  • assist with media interviews press visits publicity tracking and media contact management
  • capture photos and videos for marketing advertising social media and promotional purposes
  • support the development and administration of the Museum membership program
  • process memberships renewals payments and member communications
  • maintain accurate membership records and tracking systems
  • coordinate the annual Member Overnight event and other member-exclusive experiences
  • manage group sales for military organizations
  • schedule and coordinate military ceremonies aboard the USS Lexington Museum
  • provide onsite support and staffing for military ceremonies
  • communicate ceremony logistics and setup requirements with Museum staff and vendors
  • support the Marketing Office with special events programs and projects
  • assist with audio visual needs livestreams and event technology requirements
  • assist with sponsorship fulfillment and benefit tracking
  • provide event support during occasional evenings weekends and holidays as required
  • participate in weekly all-staff departmental and team meetings
  • assist in all aspects of the Marketing Office under the supervision of the Director of Marketing including Camp LEX Overnight Adventure program group tours education special events and other duties as assigned
