Job Description
Alabama Outdoors (AO) is a reputable active lifestyle retail brand deeply rooted in community engagement, people, and purpose. Known for its commitment to fostering a welcoming and vibrant culture, AO operates retail stores across multiple markets, offering enthusiasts a unique blend of apparel and equipment tailored for outdoor adventures and active living. AO’s emphasis on authentic experiences and customer connection has established it as more than just a retail destination—it's a community hub where shared passions and purposeful events bring people together. The company values a warm, inclusive environment and aims to build lasting relationships with its customers and partners.
The Community Events Manager role at Alabama Outdoors is vital in bringing the AO brand to life through locally driven community events. This position focuses on planning, leading, and implementing a variety of engaging events designed to resonate with AO’s active lifestyle identity. From large flagship occasions such as Party on the Porch to smaller, more intimate campus activations, in-store experiences, and pop-ups, this manager ensures every event aligns with AO’s mission and provides meaningful connections for attendees.
The role involves close collaboration with store teams, marketing, and cultural experience groups to create vibrant events that raise brand visibility, deepen community ties, and cultivate long-term loyalty among customers. The Community Events Manager takes full ownership of all event logistics including staffing, setup, promotion, and execution, maintaining high standards of brand representation and guest hospitality. By partnering with local gyms, nonprofits, campuses, and other brand collaborators, the manager helps build authentic, mutually beneficial relationships that amplify AO’s presence and support its brand values.
In addition to executing existing signature events, the Community Events Manager is encouraged to innovate and identify new event opportunities that advance the brand’s active lifestyle focus. This includes evolving traditional events, managing detailed planning calendars for multiple locations, and continuously gathering feedback to improve the event experience based on participant and team insights.
The position requires a dynamic individual comfortable in high-energy, people-centric settings who can balance creativity with rigorous organizational skills. The manager must command leadership presence at events, fostering enthusiasm while efficiently handling real-time challenges. The work schedule is primarily during Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday for a 30-hour week from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with flexibility around the event weeks including evening and weekend commitments. This role is based locally with frequent travel to various AO locations and reports directly to the Director of Culture & Experience.
Alabama Outdoors provides a positive, fun work environment and offers employee discounts including 30 percent off in-store year round and 50 percent off AO and AOA brand merchandise. This flexible role is not only about managing logistics but also about being a brand ambassador who embodies the AO Way through thoughtfully executed community events that bring the outdoors lifestyle to life for diverse audiences.
