Job Description

Minnesota Public Radio|American Public Media (MPR|APM) is a leading public media company dedicated to serving the diverse communities of Minnesota and beyond through trusted news, engaging programming, and meaningful community connections. As a renowned nonprofit organization, MPR|APM leverages radio, digital media, and live events to inform, inspire, and enrich the lives of audiences across Greater Minnesota and the Twin Cities. Committed to public service values, MPR|APM fosters an inclusive atmosphere that welcomes diverse voices and stories, reflecting the full spectrum of the region's cultural, social, and civic landscape.

The Community Engagement Coordinator position at MPR|APM is an entry-level, full-time temporary role designed to advance the organization’s priority initiatives centered around audience growth, volunteerism, and community connections. This unique role offers a hands-on opportunity to engage directly with the public through participation in fairs, festivals, parades, neighborhood gatherings, and other events statewide in Minnesota. The Coordinator will serve as a key liaison in promoting MPR|APM’s mission by helping to organize and manage volunteers, facilitating community event logistics, and supporting educational and community organizing efforts.

This position requires a proactive, organized individual comfortable with public speaking and engaging diverse crowds, who is also adept at managing multiple responsibilities including scheduling, documentation, expense tracking, and volunteer coordination. The role supports hybrid work from the Saint Paul, MN location but necessitates flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel across the state as needed. Working closely with the Membership and Philanthropic Development team, the Coordinator will contribute significantly to the success of community engagement campaigns through social media content creation including photography and video, record-keeping, and follow-up to ensure volunteer retention and continuous improvement.

Offered at an hourly wage range of $26 to $29 depending on experience and education, this position not only helps build strong relationships with Minnesota’s communities but also provides valuable exposure to many facets of how a public media company operates. The Community Engagement Coordinator will play a vital role in fostering an accessible, welcoming, and vibrant environment that amplifies public media’s core values of trust, service, and civic connection. The program emphasizes participation, inclusion, and data-driven impact reporting to support ongoing philanthropic support and resource development.

By joining the MPR|APM team, the Coordinator will be part of an organization dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, encouraging applications from all qualified individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, or other protected characteristics. This role is ideal for someone passionate about community outreach, eager to gain experience in nonprofit public media, and committed to leveraging volunteer programs to build stronger community ties and promote public service values.
