Located in Providence, Rhode Island, Brown is part of the Ivy League, which underscores its dedication to excellence in both teaching and research. The institution fosters a dynamic academic environment where students, faculty, and staff are deeply committed to making a global impact through their work, research, and innovations. Known for flexible work-life balance, Brown University offers many employee benefits, including summer hours, winter breaks, and a comprehensive package that covers health, dental, and vision insurance, tuition assistance, retirement plans, wellness programs, employee discounts, and more. These benefits reflect the university's commitment to supporting its workforce alongside their professional development and personal well-being.
The Data Science Institute (DSI) at Brown University serves as a vibrant campus hub dedicated to advancing research and education in the rapidly evolving realm of data science. The institute comprises two interdisciplinary research centers: the Center for Computational Molecular Biology (CCMB) and the Center for Technological Responsibility (CNTR). Together, these centers drive innovative research and provide academic programming at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The institute also hosts postdoctoral researchers and facilitates collaboration across multiple campus departments and industry partners, positioning itself at the forefront of data science innovation and education.
The Communications and Events Coordinator role at the Data Science Institute is a critical position responsible for managing both internal and external communications and orchestrating events of various scales including seminars, lectures, workshops, and recruitment sessions aimed particularly at the student body. This full-time, onsite position demands a proactive individual capable of working independently as well as collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, industry representatives, and other university departments. The coordinator will handle essential communication channels such as newsletters, social media platforms, and website content to ensure effective dissemination of information and engagement with the university community and external audiences.
This role requires excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail to successfully manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced academic environment. The selected candidate will have considerable experience or education related to communications, community outreach, and event planning, ideally within an academic or research institute setting. Responsibilities also include event planning logistics, operational support for department activities, and maintaining a strong customer-service orientation. This position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the dynamic field of data science by supporting the institute's mission and enhancing its visibility and outreach through strategic communication and event execution.
