The role of Communication Representative at UnityPoint Health is a full-time position on the second shift, specifically from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. This role is integral to the smooth operation of the healthcare facility's communication systems. The Communication Representative is responsible for supporting switchboard operations by managing incoming calls, pages, and messages with precision and professionalism. This ensures accurate routing of information and timely communication across the entire organization. The Communication Representative must prioritize calls based on urgency and provide exemplary customer service to patients, staff, and visitors alike.
In addition to handling routine communications, this role involves monitoring various alarm systems including fire, medical, panic, gas, and weather alerts. The Communication Representative must relay critical information promptly to the appropriate emergency response teams, playing a pivotal part in the facility's safety protocols. Coordination of afterhours communication is another essential task, requiring the management of contact lists and on-call schedules to maintain seamless connectivity among on-call staff.
A unique aspect of this position involves arranging auxiliary communication services such as American Sign Language (ASL) and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) interpreters. This ensures that patients and visitors with diverse communication needs receive the support they require. The Communication Representative also assists with daily telecommunications operations, reports any issues, and supports troubleshooting efforts to minimize service disruptions, thereby maintaining high standards of communication reliability.
Continuous improvement is a core value at UnityPoint Health, and the Communication Representative contributes to this by identifying system inefficiencies, maintaining accurate documentation, logs, and emergency communication records. Additionally, the role supports emergency response efforts including participation in the Hospital Emergency Incident Command System, underscoring its importance in the organization's crisis management framework.
This position offers a chance to be part of a dedicated team that plays a critical role in service delivery and emergency communications within a dynamic healthcare setting. UnityPoint Health invites candidates who are detail-oriented, customer-service focused, and eager to support a mission-driven organization that values its people and their contributions.
