Job Description

UF Health is a leading academic health center and healthcare provider based in Gainesville, Florida. It is renowned for delivering world-class medical services, pioneering research, and fostering education in medicine. UF Health Pediatrics - Children’s Medical Services Department specializes in comprehensive pediatric care that addresses the unique medical and emotional needs of children and their families. Their team includes a variety of healthcare professionals dedicated to providing excellent patient-centered care in a supportive and innovative environment. The location at 1699 SW 16th Ave Bldg A in Gainesville offers an accessible and welcoming setting for patients and families seeking expert healthcare services. UF Health upholds a mission of improving health and well-being through teaching, research, and patient care, ensuring that the needs of their patient community are met with compassion, expertise, and cutting-edge treatments.

This full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, offering a stable and consistent schedule conducive to work-life balance. Working at UF Health means joining a respected institution that values its employees’ professional development and provides them with the tools and resources necessary to succeed in a dynamic healthcare environment.

The role of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) within the Children’s Medical Services Department is vital. This professional facilitates care by providing patients and families with a comprehensive, continuous plan of care designed to enhance their adjustment to illness and promote wellness. The LCSW identifies the needs of patients and families requiring community support services through review of medical records, participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, and collaboration with clinical staff. Treatment plans are developed with a focus on case management to alleviate environmental stresses and ensure the best possible outcomes. The role also involves managing referrals to external agencies such as the Department of Children and Families and Hospice services when necessary.

Crisis management is a crucial component of this position. Responding quickly and effectively to emergencies involving patients or families requires the professional to provide appropriate interventions aimed at stabilizing and resolving crisis situations. The LCSW is expected to maintain positive relationships with referring facilities and agencies, easing stressful circumstances for patients and families. Meticulous documentation of all services rendered in medical records and clinic information systems is essential for maintaining continuity of care and meeting hospital policy requirements.

Professionalism is deeply emphasized, with adherence to the hospital’s policies, procedures, and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics. The social worker also participates in administrative duties that include attending meetings, contributing to committees and focus groups, and timely completion of reports. Age-specific competency is critical, requiring the social worker to have knowledge of growth and development principles to tailor care appropriate for the pediatric population served. Providing psychotherapy services on referral, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders and behavioral problems, is also part of the role. The social worker develops evidence-based treatment plans that help children and families navigate acute or chronic distress.

Beyond direct patient care, the LCSW contributes to the efficient operation of the clinic by performing related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and dedication. Joining UF Health as an LCSW offers the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of children and their families while working in a supportive, resource-rich, and professional environment that fosters career growth and innovation.
