The role offered is for a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist at Ochsner Health. This position plays a crucial part in the clinical laboratory by receiving, preparing, and analyzing specimens according to established protocols and procedures, contributing essential data for diagnosing and treating diseases. The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory tests and calculations, conducts quality control procedures, and evaluates and maintains laboratory instruments to ensure accurate and reliable test results. The role also includes performing phlebotomy procedures, maintaining confidentiality of patient information, and adhering to regulatory compliance and safety standards. Working primarily on a 7 on/7 off day shift schedule, the incumbent must be able to demonstrate technical proficiency, critical thinking, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt to diverse patient populations.

The job demands physical stamina as it involves standing or sitting for prolonged periods, occasionally exerting considerable force, and exposure to biohazards typical in healthcare settings such as blood and body fluids. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
  • current license in the state of practice(if applicable)
  • ASCP, AMT or AAB certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technologist
  • proficiency with Windows-style applications
  • ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays
  • physical ability to perform heavy work including lifting and prolonged standing or sitting
  • ability to follow safety guidelines and maintain confidentiality
  • ability to travel between facilities
  • exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous materials
  • effective communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
  • current state license if applicable
  • ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist or ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification if working in an Academic Medical Center
  • proficient computer skills and dexterity for data entry
  • effective verbal and written communication skills
  • good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • good judgment and conflict resolution abilities
  • strong interpersonal skills
