The Technologist Trainee role in Dublin, OH, presents an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to begin or grow their careers in clinical laboratory science. This position is designed primarily for new graduates or those with limited clinical laboratory experience who are eager to receive comprehensive training and develop the necessary skills to perform accurate and high-quality laboratory testing. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with rotating weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary, accommodating the demands of a clinical environment.

In this role, the technologist trainee will be responsible for determining the acceptability of specimens based on established criteria, performing both routine and complex technical procedures, and operating laboratory instrumentation with diligence and precision. The role emphasizes troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical decision-making to maintain the accuracy and reliability of test results that directly influence patient care. The trainee will also participate in preparing and evaluating new reagents and controls, conducting quality control procedures, and maintaining a safe work environment by adhering to personal protective equipment standards.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience preferred
  • ASCP or AMT certification preferred
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Duties

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental standard operating procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
