Labcorp is currently seeking a Technologist at its UT Medical facility in Knoxville, Tennessee. This position operates on a rotating two-week schedule, alternating between Friday to Sunday and Wednesday to Thursday with evening to early morning shifts from 2:30 pm to 3:00 am. The role of a Technologist at Labcorp is vital, encompassing the responsibility to perform both routine and sophisticated laboratory testing procedures according to established protocols and standards. The professional in this role is tasked with ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results which directly impact patient care and treatment decisions. The Technologist will be responsible for specimen acceptability evaluation, troubleshooting and operating laboratory instrumentation, preparing and testing reagents or controls, and maintaining quality control and preventive maintenance procedures.

In addition, the Technologist must demonstrate keen problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed technical decisions regarding laboratory tests. This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working both independently and as part of a collaborative team within a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environment. The ability to handle physical demands, pass a standardized color blindness test, and show flexibility in work hours are also essential. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Job Duties

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
