The role offered is for a Clinical Lab Professional who will be an integral part of the lab operations at Ascension St. Vincent's Clay County. This full-time position operates on a schedule of four 10-hour night shifts from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, including every other weekend, catering to a demanding but rewarding work environment. The Clinical Lab Professional is responsible for performing both routine and complex laboratory procedures that contribute significantly to diagnostic testing and patient care. The position requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to handle a workload that includes specimen acceptance, testing, troubleshooting instrumentation, and ensuring quality control. This role is vital as it directly impacts the accuracy and timeliness of test results provided to healthcare providers.

Candidates filling this role will be expected to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. They must have proficiency with laboratory information systems and a dedication to maintaining safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment. The Clinical Lab Professional will also assist with specimen processing and needs to be flexible to work overtime or different shifts based on business needs. The position requires a Florida Medical Technologist (MT) license, a minimum of a bachelor's degree in relevant science fields, or equivalent qualifications that meet CLIA standards. Certification by ASCP or AMT is preferred, adding value to the candidate’s capability in laboratory science.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • One year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience or an MLS degree
  • Florida medical technologist (MT) license
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with laboratory information systems
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Duties

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental standard operating procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
