Job Description
Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) stands as one of the nation’s most advanced and respected health care organizations, delivering exceptional care to its communities through state-of-the-art technology and dedicated professionals. Recognized nationally for its excellence, LVHN has earned a consecutive 23-year ranking among the "Best Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report, exemplifying its commitment to superior patient outcomes and innovative health services. This forward-thinking healthcare network operates multiple hospitals in the Lehigh Valley region, including Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Muhlenberg, Hazleton, and Pocono. Each of these facilities has received an A grade in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, highlighting LVHN’s priority on delivering safe, compassionate, and efficient health care.
LVHN also holds the prestigious Magnet(tm) designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recognized five times for nursing excellence. This accolade reaffirms the organization’s dedication to teamwork, compassion, technological integration, and continuous quality improvement. Whether you are at the start of your healthcare career or looking to advance your professional journey, LVHN offers abundant opportunities for growth, professional development, and making a meaningful impact on patient lives in a supportive, inclusive work environment.
The Medical Assistant role within LVHN is critical to facilitating a seamless, high-quality patient experience. This position functions as the first point of contact for patients and is instrumental in both administrative and clinical functions. The role combines clerical responsibilities such as patient check-in and appointment coordination, with direct clinical support responsibilities like measuring vital signs and assisting with patient procedures. These combined duties help optimize clinic workflows and ensure patients receive attentive, timely care.
Working in collaboration with providers, clinical teams, and administrative staff, Medical Assistants at LVHN support patient care delivery by maintaining accuracy in electronic medical records, coordinating insurance verification and payment processing, and preparing exam rooms to ensure a safe and comfortable environment. The role demands excellent communication skills to build trust and rapport with patients and their families, along with strong organizational capabilities to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
This position requires performing clinical tasks such as collecting vital signs, administering medications and vaccinations within the scope of practice, and preparing lab specimens. Medical Assistants also contribute to quality assurance by maintaining required logs and assisting in the identification of patient risks. Additionally, they play a key role in follow-up care through timely patient communications post-discharge. The role offers day shifts with rotating holidays and weekends, providing comprehensive exposure to varied healthcare environments and schedules.
Lehigh Valley Health Network values diversity, equity, and inclusion, pledging equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. As an employer, LVHN is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive workplace for every employee and encourages candidates who are passionate about providing outstanding patient care and being part of a dynamic, innovative healthcare system to apply.
