Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a vital role in the food distribution network across the United States. The company maintains strong relationships with a broad spectrum of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Their team comprises sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists who work closely with customers to enhance their operations, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies. This collaborative approach not only ensures the delivery of high-quality food products but also supports independent restaurant owners and other foodservice businesses in achieving long-term success and growth.

Performance Foodservice is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and rewarding work environment with a culture that values rewards, recognition, and respect. The company offers competitive pay and extensive benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. Employees have the opportunity to grow their careers while performing essential duties that support America’s food distribution system. The company upholds equal employment opportunity principles, ensuring fairness regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, or other protected characteristics.

The Driver Trainee position at Performance Foodservice is an entry-level role designed for individuals eager to start a career in professional driving, particularly within the food distribution sector. This role offers hands-on training to develop the skills necessary for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The primary responsibility is to learn safe and compliant driving techniques while delivering and unloading food and related products to customers efficiently and professionally.

Working Monday through Friday with dispatch times between 3am and 5am, Driver Trainees gain valuable experience by assisting experienced drivers, performing pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, and closely following Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies. The role requires strong attention to safety, accuracy in handling paperwork, proper loading and unloading of freight, and excellent customer service skills. Driver Trainees are expected to collaborate as part of a team, taking on duties that support the larger organizational goals.

This position also includes comprehensive training programs such as the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, with all training documentation maintained thoroughly. The role demands physical stamina, requiring the ability to hand-lift product cases weighing approximately 60 to 90 pounds, use equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates, and maintain cleanliness and safety of the tractor and trailers throughout the shift. Successful completion of required tests and obtaining a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) are necessary milestones within this role.

By joining Performance Foodservice as a Driver Trainee, individuals step into a challenging yet rewarding career path that provides professional growth opportunities, a supportive work culture, and the satisfaction of contributing to a critical industry that feeds communities nationwide.
