Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a subsidiary of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor dedicated to serving a diverse range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Renowned for its commitment to quality and customer-centric approach, Performance Foodservice not only delivers food products but also builds strong partnerships through a team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. These professionals collaborate with clients to optimize operations, assist with menu development, select appropriate products, and implement effective operational strategies. The company’s mission extends beyond simple distribution; it is focused on helping independent restaurant owners achieve their business goals by providing exceptional service, reliable delivery, and valuable industry insights.
Performance Foodservice offers a safe and inclusive working environment that fosters respect, recognition, and reward for its employees. The company provides competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits starting from day one, which includes health and wellness plans, employee stock purchase opportunities, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. This commitment to employee welfare and career growth reflects Performance Foodservice’s desire to cultivate a stable workforce and enable its employees to thrive within the company.
The position of Driver, Formula CDL-B, is a vital role within Performance Foodservice’s supply chain operations. Drivers are responsible for ensuring the timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products to customers, often serving as the face of the company upon arrival. This role requires operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Drivers must comply with strict Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and internal safety policies to maintain the highest standards of service and safety.
The position offers a starting rate of $24 per hour during a brief training period, transitioning to component pay thereafter. The role follows a five-day workweek within the Monday-Saturday window, with average shifts ranging between 10 to 12 hours. Dispatch times occur early in the morning, typically between midnight and 5 a.m., with end times varying depending on routes. Additionally, the company offers a $5,000 sign-on bonus to new hires who qualify, further emphasizing the value placed on this essential role.
Drivers at Performance Foodservice are required to conduct thorough pre- and post-trip safety inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety standards. They handle the loading and unloading of products, verify orders and invoices, and maintain accurate delivery documentation. Effective communication with customers, vendors, and coworkers is critical, as drivers must provide updates, resolve issues, and uphold professional relationships. The role involves physical demands such as hand-lifting product cases typically weighing between 10 and 90 pounds, and operating equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates.
This position is well-suited for individuals who are safety-conscious, reliable, and customer-focused, with valid CDL B licenses and relevant commercial driving experience. Performance Foodservice values employees who contribute positively to team dynamics while meeting operational challenges efficiently and safely. Joining Performance Foodservice means becoming part of a company that values diversity, equal opportunity, and employee growth while playing a key role in supporting America’s food distribution system.
