The Driver Trainee role at Performance Foodservice is an entry-level opportunity designed for individuals seeking to launch a career in commercial driving. This position offers hands-on experience and training in operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries. Routes could include local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight schedules, with early morning dispatch times typically between 2 and 5 am from Monday to Friday. Successful candidates will engage in rigorous driver training programs, including PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training, where they will receive essential instruction and evaluation. The primary responsibility is to learn and eventually execute safe and efficient delivery of food and related products to various customers, ensuring compliance with Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations at all times.
Beyond driving duties, the trainee will perform a variety of tasks such as conducting thorough safety and equipment inspections, verifying properly loaded and secured freight, maintaining accurate delivery and freight paperwork, and adhering to company and DOT safety standards. Professional interaction and communication with customers, vendors, and coworkers play a pivotal role in delivering superior customer service. Maintaining cleanliness and orderly conditions in tractors, trailers, and docks, handling customer returns and damaged goods, and recording hours of service in compliance with federal and state regulations are also essential functions of the role.
