Job Description

Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a leading broadline foodservice distributor known for its strong relationships with a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. As a key player in the food distribution industry, PFG focuses not only on delivering high-quality food products but also on providing expert advice and support to its customers. This support extends to improving operations, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies. The company prides itself on fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive work environment that values employee recognition, respect, and growth opportunities. Employees benefit from comprehensive pay and benefits packages, including day-one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more. PFG’s commitment to its workforce and customers positions it as a preferred employer and service provider within the food distribution sector.

This entry-level Driver Trainee role is designed for individuals seeking to start or advance their careers in commercial driving within the food distribution industry. The driver trainee will receive comprehensive, hands-on training, including successful completion of PFG's Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program. This important position involves learning to safely operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks, both intrastate and interstate, on various routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The role requires adherence to strict safety standards and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations in the handling, transportation, and delivery of food and related products.

The driver trainee will gain practical experience by riding with and assisting qualified driver trainers, progressively taking on responsibilities such as safety inspections, freight securing, route navigation, and customer service tasks. This includes pre and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers to ensure compliance with DOT and company safety standards, verifying the accuracy and condition of freight, unloading and loading product cases, interacting professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, and handling necessary paperwork and delivery documentation.

Candidates must be prepared to handle physically demanding tasks such as lifting product cases ranging from 60 to 90 pounds, utilizing equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the tractor, loading dock area, and trailers. Safety is paramount, with drivers expected to report hazards immediately and maintain secure transport of freight and equipment at all times.

This role offers a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 annually with a 4-5 day work week and availability required Monday through Saturday. Beyond compensation, employees benefit from a culture that promotes rewards, recognition, and respect, along with substantial opportunities for career growth in a critical operational role that supports America's food distribution system. Overall, this entry-level driver trainee position at Performance Foodservice is ideal for motivated candidates looking to build a career in commercial driving within a stable, respected company that values its employees and customers alike.
