The CDL-A Driver position at Cheney Brothers is a vital role within the company, focused on supporting America’s food distribution system. This night shift, local delivery role requires the driver to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes, including intrastate, interstate, shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop routes. The driver plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of the cold and dry food supply chain by ensuring products reach customers safely, on time, and in excellent condition while adhering strictly to Department of Transportation regulations. Job Requirements
- high school diploma/GED or equivalent
- 12+ months commercial driving experience
- valid CDL-A
- must be 21+ years of age
- meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
- pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- pass road test
- attains or has valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
- able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties
- performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
- inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and takes appropriate action as needed
- reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
- follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- immediately reports all safety hazards
- inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of loaded products
- completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
- moves tractor to loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
- drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
- unloads products from trailer and transports items to designated customer storage areas
- performs damage control checks on items, scans and contacts supervisor about removing orders per company policy
- verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
- collects money where required
- loads customer returns on trailer and secures trailer doors
- ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
- unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
- unloads all equipment, removes trash from trailers as required
- completes daily record of hours of service and enters log per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean
- secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at shift end
- performs other related duties as assigned
