Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor that serves a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Known for going beyond simple food delivery, the company’s team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and experts work closely with customers to provide valuable advice on operations improvement, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. This unique approach helps independent restaurant owners and other foodservice clients to grow and succeed while ensuring they receive high-quality, fresh, and delicious products.
Performance Foodservice prides itself on delivering not just food, but also support, partnerships, and growth opportunities. The company values a culture of safety, respect, and recognition, providing an inclusive working environment where employees are rewarded for their dedication and excellence. Employment with Performance Foodservice offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits starting from day one, and multiple growth opportunities within an essential industry that supports America’s food distribution and restaurant sectors.
The current opening for a CDL-A Delivery Driver is critical to the company’s supply chain operations. This full-time role offers an average yearly income of $80,000 plus quarterly safety bonuses. The workweek consists of five days, typically scheduled Monday through Saturday, with no mandatory Sunday shifts, though days off may vary requiring flexibility. Certain routes may involve team driving or overnight stays with layovers, and dispatch generally occurs between midnight and 5 AM, with shifts averaging around 10 hours. Additionally, candidates with at least one year of verifiable foodservice or beverage delivery experience are eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus, contingent on meeting specific criteria.
In this role, the CDL-A Driver is responsible for operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks safely and efficiently on local, intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. The driver ensures timely delivery of food and related products to customers, maintains excellent communication with customers and coworkers, and upholds all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies. This position demands a strong commitment to vehicle safety, load security, and impeccable record-keeping, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections, paperwork accuracy, and adherence to hours-of-service rules.
Beyond the technical responsibilities, drivers serve as the company’s representative and customer liaison, building lasting relationships and providing professional service that reflects Performance Foodservice’s standards. They contribute to safer roadways and smoother delivery processes by maintaining strict safety protocols and reporting any vehicle or freight issues immediately. The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to hand-lift heavy product cases and operate equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to load, secure, and unload freight.
Joining Performance Foodservice as a CDL-A Driver means becoming part of a stable, growing company that values its employees and offers multiple long-term benefits, including health and wellness coverage starting day one, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. This is an opportunity to be part of a vital team that helps keep the nation’s food supply moving, while advancing your career in a supportive, dynamic environment.
