Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under PFG, stands out as a vital partner for a diverse portfolio of local customers across various industries. Their customer base includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and quick-service eateries. This wide range reflects the company’s dedication to serving the community's food distribution needs comprehensively. The team at Performance Foodservice is made up of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts committed to fostering solid partnerships with customers. They offer expert advice on enhancing operational efficiency, menu development, selecting the best products, and creating effective operational strategies. Their ultimate goal goes beyond just delivering tasty food – they strive to support independent restaurant owners in achieving their aspirations and business success.

As a CDL-A Driver with Performance Foodservice, you play a critical role in maintaining the backbone of the nation’s food supply chain. This role is not just about transportation; it is about being the face of the company, establishing and nurturing long-term relationships with customers. The position offers a competitive average yearly income starting at $80,000+, with additional quarterly safety bonus opportunities. Work schedules operate on a 5-day week from Monday through Saturday, with no Sundays, and flexible days off. There is potential for involvement in team routes or overnight assignments, including layovers on certain routes. Shift dispatching occurs from midnight to 5 AM, with average shifts lasting approximately 10 hours and predominantly encompassing ramp work.

Performance Foodservice supports its drivers with an array of benefits from day one, including health and wellness plans, employee stock purchase options, 401K with employer matching, education assistance programs, paid time off, and more. Drivers contribute significantly by undertaking essential delivery duties that support America’s food distribution network. The CDL-A Driver’s responsibilities cover driving tractor trailers or straight trucks intrastate and interstate, including local, over-the-road, shuttle, and drop routes. They ensure timely and safe distribution of food and related products while strictly adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

The job entails routine safety inspections, such as pre-trip and post-trip checks in compliance with DOT guidelines, ensuring that tractor-trailers and freight maintain the highest safety standards. Drivers must be vigilant in reporting any safety hazards or needed repairs. Handling freight correctly—including securing and inspecting loads—is essential to avoid damage or loss. Accurate paperwork completion tied to freight counts and invoices is also a core duty. Beyond deliveries, drivers manage unloading damaged goods, customer returns, and trailer cleaning as required.

The CDL-A Driver functions as a member of a broader team within Performance Foodservice, upholding company policies, safety standards, and fostering a respectful, inclusive workplace culture. This role offers growth opportunities and the chance to be part of an organization committed to rewarding hard work with recognition and respect. Working in this position means contributing directly to the continuous effort that keeps the country’s food supply safe, efficient, and reliable, which is an essential and respected responsibility in today’s complex supply chain landscape.
