Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor serving a diverse array of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company is renowned for its commitment to supporting the foodservice industry by providing high-quality products, expert advice on menu development, operational strategies, and superior customer relationships. Performance Foodservice employs a dedicated team comprising sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists who work closely with clients to enhance their operations and contribute to their long-term success. The company fosters a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture that values rewards, recognition, and personal growth.
The role of the CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is pivotal in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the nation’s food supply chain. Drivers in this position are responsible for safely delivering fresh food and related products across intrastate and interstate routes, including local deliveries as well as long-haul and overnight trips. They operate tractor trailers or straight trucks while strictly adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies. The CDL-A Driver represents the company on the front lines, establishing and nurturing strong relationships with customers by ensuring timely and intact deliveries.
This position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $75,000 to $100,000 plus, with substantial uncapped earning potential through quarterly safety bonuses and generous referral bonuses of $2,500 per referral. Employees can expect a flexible 4- or 5-day workweek, with up to two nights out per week and per diem and overnight compensation averaging $145. In addition, new drivers with over one year of CDL-A experience are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus (subject to eligibility criteria).
CDL-A Drivers are tasked with performing comprehensive safety checks on their vehicles before and after trips to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company standards. They manage the loading and unloading of freight, verify product counts against invoices, and maintain detailed and accurate delivery records. The role requires physical ability to handle freight ranging from 60 to 90 pounds, use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates, and maintain secure and safe cargo at all times. Communication skills are essential for interacting professionally with customers, vendors, and team members.
Performance Foodservice prides itself on providing growth opportunities within a vital industry that supports America's food distribution system. Employees benefit from a stable and rewarding career path in a company committed to health and wellness from day one, including comprehensive health benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The company is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusivity at all levels of the workforce, ensuring a supportive environment for all employees.
