The role of Fleet Driver at CarMax embodies more than just transporting vehicles from one location to another—it is a critical function that supports the overall logistics and inventory management within the organization. Fleet Drivers play a pivotal role in maintaining smooth operations by ensuring vehicles are safely and timely transported between stores, auctions, vendors, and logistics hubs. CarMax offers Fleet Drivers consistent work schedules with competitive pay ranging between $26.20 and $44.60 per hour depending on experience and performance. Fleet Drivers at CarMax act as trusted representatives of the company. Their responsibilities go beyond driving to include loading and securing vehicles, conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections compliant with Department of Transportation (DOT) and CarMax standards, maintaining proper documentation, and following all federal and company safety regulations. The role demands proficiency in operating heavy commercial vehicles with a 10-speed transmission, physical ability to handle loading equipment, and adherence to safety protocols at all times. Drivers are expected to maintain a clean, well-kept commercial truck and trailer and communicate professionally with vendors, store associates, and the public.

This position is ideal for candidates who have at least two years of Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) experience, including those with military heavy or medium tactical vehicle driving backgrounds. Current CarMax associates with relevant commercial motor vehicle experience are encouraged to apply as well. CarMax also prioritizes maintaining a clean driving record, requiring no serious violations in the past three years and no preventable safety incidents within two years. Drivers must meet DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) qualification requirements.
