Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), stands as a leading provider in the food distribution industry, servicing a diverse clientele that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a commitment to excellence, Performance Foodservice fosters strong, lasting relationships with its customers through a team comprised of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and various industry experts. This dedicated team not only ensures the delivery of high-quality food products but also provides invaluable advisory services that help improve operational efficiencies, menu innovations, product selections, and overall strategic business growth for independent restaurant owners and other clients.
The company prides itself on creating an inclusive and rewarding work environment backed by equitable employment opportunities and its adherence to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principles. Performance Foodservice’s culture emphasizes respect, recognition, and safety, aiming to support each employee’s growth and success.
The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice is a pivotal position within the company’s operational framework, focusing on the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of food and food-related products. This full-time position offers competitive compensation, including a lucrative $7,500 hiring bonus (terms apply) and the potential to earn $75,000 or more in the first year. The role features a weekday early morning start with local routes that avoid nights and weekends, promoting a balanced work-life schedule.
As a CDL-A Driver, you will operate tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate routes, local deliveries, and over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop assignments. Your responsibilities will extend beyond driving, requiring you to be the face of Performance Foodservice to customers by maintaining professional communication and service standards. Emphasis is placed on adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies, which includes performing detailed pre-trip and post-trip inspections, managing freight security, and responsible handling of products during delivery and unloading.
Daily duties include collaborating with customers, vendors, and coworkers, ensuring thorough documentation and paperwork, verifying product counts and conditions, collecting payments where necessary, and continually reporting and addressing safety or repair issues. Drivers are also tasked with maintaining cleanliness and order within their equipment and loading areas.
This position not only demands technical skills and regulatory compliance but also values customer service, teamwork, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Benefits accompanying this role include day-one health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401(k) employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more, reflecting Performance Foodservice’s commitment to the well-being and professional advancement of its employees.
By joining Performance Foodservice as a CDL-A Driver, you become part of an essential team that helps power America’s food supply chain by delivering quality products efficiently and safely. The company also prides itself on a strong culture of diversity, inclusion, and openness, welcoming talent from varied backgrounds and lived experiences. This role provides an excellent pathway for professional growth in a stable and respected industry, surrounded by supportive colleagues and leadership.
