Job Description
The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Cook position is a vital role within the Child Development Center (CDC), dedicated to ensuring nutritious and well-prepared meals for children enrolled in the program. The Child and Youth Program is designed to support the growth and development of children and youth by providing high-quality care and activities that promote learning and wellbeing. The CYP Cook plays an essential part in this mission by preparing meals that meet dietary standards and accommodate the unique needs of children in the care environment. This role involves a variety of food preparation tasks including cooking, serving, and maintaining kitchen safety and cleanliness.
This position is strategically placed within the CDC, a setting where child care and development are paramount. The CDC offers a nurturing environment tailored to children's physical, emotional, and educational growth. The CYP Cook contributes to this environment by adhering to nutritional guidelines and safety protocols to provide healthy, safe meals that support children’s overall health. Furthermore, this role may extend assistance in food preparation for the School Age Care (SAC) Program, ensuring that older children also receive quality meals. The versatility required for this position demands a candidate who is not only skilled in culinary tasks but also understands the importance of nutrition in child development and has a passion for working in youth-focused programs.
Employment in this role is typically full-time and may offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Working in CYP demands a high standard of hygiene, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other staff members. The CYP Cook must be familiar with food safety standards, menu planning, portion control, and allergy management. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about food service in a child care setting and wish to contribute to the well-being and development of children through nutritious meal preparation and supportive service.
