As a leading retailer, Macy's offers a wide array of products ranging from fashion and cosmetics to home goods and electronics, catering to a broad demographic with style and quality. Beyond its retail presence, Macy's is famous for national events like the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks and the Thanksgiving Day Parade, which have become cherished cultural moments for families and communities alike.

Joining Macy's means becoming part of a story that embraces innovation while honoring long-standing traditions. The company fosters an inclusive, dynamic workplace that values every colleague’s contribution and emphasizes growth, diversity, and community involvement. This commitment to employee growth and well-being is reflected in the robust benefits package and opportunities for professional development.

The Chief Engineer II role at Macy's is a critical position focused primarily on HVAC systems maintenance and oversight. This role requires extensive travel to Macy's stores located in Washington, Oregon, Boise, and Bozeman, making it essential for candidates to be flexible and mobile. The Chief Engineer II is responsible for maintaining the physical infrastructure and equipment of the stores, ensuring optimal operation through preventive maintenance and timely repairs across various systems including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire and life safety, and especially HVAC.

Key responsibilities include managing routine, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance tasks, coordinating with both internal trades personnel and external contractors. The role involves supervising a team consisting of technicians, electricians, painters, and carpenters, while also mentoring and coaching these team members to ensure high performance and maintain adherence to maintenance and safety standards.

This position demands strong leadership skills as the Chief Engineer II establishes individualized goals for direct reports, actively manages their development, and creates an engaging work environment promoting safety, respect, and operational excellence. The Chief Engineer II is also tasked with managing maintenance-related budgets and purchasing activities, ensuring compliance with approved vendors and company procedures.

As an essential part of the Facilities Management team, the Chief Engineer II regularly interacts with store management, operations, visual merchandising, and loss prevention teams to coordinate maintenance efforts and contribute to store project planning. The individual is expected to track key performance indicators such as maintenance productivity, energy efficiency, expense management, and customer satisfaction, using this data to guide improvements.

Technical expertise in HVAC systems with EPA certification is mandatory, along with a strong understanding of electrical systems, plumbing, facility maintenance best practices, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance. This role demands excellent problem-solving skills, strategic thinking abilities, and effective communication to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Macy's values candidates who are adaptable and innovative, capable of leveraging new technologies and approaches to enhance facility operations and customer experiences. The physical demands of this role include heavy lifting, frequent movement, extended periods of stationary posture, and working at heights. Flexibility to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays is also required.

Joining Macy's means becoming part of a vibrant team where work is as rewarding as it is enjoyable. Alongside competitive pay, Macy's provides comprehensive health and wellness benefits, a 401(k) match program, paid time off, paid holidays, performance-based incentives, merchandise discounts, and career growth opportunities, including leadership development and community engagement through Colleague Resource Groups and volunteer activities.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the facility operations of one of America's most beloved retail brands while building your career in a supportive and inclusive environment.
