The Chef / Sous Chef position at LOCAL Public Eatery plays a critical role in shaping the overall experience and success of the restaurant. As a Chef / Sous Chef, you will be responsible for attracting, retaining, and mentoring a high-performing, fearless team of culinary professionals. Key responsibilities include maintaining high standards in food preparation and safety, managing kitchen operations with precision, and ensuring consistent execution of recipes utilizing various cooking techniques such as washing, chopping, grilling, roasting, sautéing, and frying. The Chef / Sous Chef will also oversee the maintenance of clean, sanitary, and safe workstations and equipment, coordinate with other kitchen stations, and handle recruitment and training efforts to build a strong and knowledgeable team. Budget management including monitoring food costs and labor is also a significant component of the position.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years culinary experience
  • team leadership abilities
  • valid local and/or state Food Handler permit or ability to obtain one
  • ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time

  • ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Job Duties

  • Exude professionalism, friendliness and fun towards guests and partners alike
  • Support your team in the preparation of all ingredients and food products to fulfill prep lists, par levels, and recipe standards
  • Utilize various preparation and cooking methods to ensure the quick, precise creation of our menu items in accordance with LOCAL Public Eatery recipes
  • Wash, chop, cut, grill, roast, sauté, fry, etc
  • Coordinate with other stations as needed
  • Maintain prep and cooking areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner
  • Ensure clean, organized, and maintained refrigerators, cooler drawers, ovens, preparation, and dry storage areas, etc
  • Train partners on the instructions and guidelines for safe usage of kitchen equipment and cleaning compounds
  • Report on equipment problems and maintenance issues immediately
  • Fulfill recruitment needs, impact positive candidate experiences, and select and retain your team
  • Support your team in training and development of technical knowledge and world-class execution of LOCAL Public Eatery tasks and standards
  • Communicate daily focus and feedback to partners
  • Manage in-store budgets, food costs, and labor
  • Coach the kitchen team as needed to deliver on consistent and memorable experiences for our guests
  • Follow all food service and handling safety precautions and procedures
