Job Description
Chartwells K12 is a leading food service provider specializing in school dining programs across the United States. With a commitment to making school cafeterias places where students not only receive nutritious meals but also enjoy food they love, Chartwells K12 operates in over 4,300 schools, ranging from large public institutions to charter and private schools. The company is part of Compass Group, an industry leader in foodservice, renowned for its dedication to diversity, inclusion, and excellence in food, nutrition, wellness, and sustainability. Chartwells K12 employs over 16,000 associates who work to deliver high-quality dining experiences tailored to the unique needs of each school community. The organization places a strong emphasis on the nutritional value, safety, and taste of the meals served, ensuring that every student leaves the cafeteria happier and healthier than when they arrived.
The role being offered is that of a part-time Chef located at Saint Louis Public Schools in Missouri. This position is ideal for culinary professionals with previous chef experience who are passionate about working in a school environment to create enjoyable and nutritious meals for children. The work schedule is part-time, Monday through Friday, with hours that may vary and will be further discussed during the interview process. The pay range for this position is competitive, ranging from $20.00 to $21.00 per hour. Additionally, there is an internal employee referral bonus available.
As a Chef at Chartwells K12, you will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating kitchen and food production teams to ensure that all food handling, sanitation, and customer service standards are meticulously maintained. The role requires a hands-on leader who can supervise and actively participate in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals, while ensuring that food quality, portion control, and presentation meet established standards. The Chef also plays a critical role in managing inventory by tracking food usage, waste, and requisitioning supplies as needed. Receiving and inspecting deliveries to guarantee quality and quantity falls under your purview, along with maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen workstations and equipment.
This position also involves interviewing and training hourly kitchen staff, managing scheduling and payroll, conducting performance reviews, and recommending disciplinary actions when necessary. Chefs contribute to menu development and recipe selection, aligning meal offerings with nutritional goals and student preferences. The role demands a commitment to upholding safety and sanitation requirements throughout all stages of food preparation and service. Chartwells K12 supports its associates with a robust benefits package, competitive pay, and opportunities for professional growth within an inclusive and supportive work environment. By joining this team, you help foster a positive dining experience that supports students’ health and well-being every day.
