Charlie’s Cafe at Pendergast Elementary School District in Phoenix, AZ, is currently looking for a Catering Chef to lead a vibrant café and cater to a large and dynamic catering program. This role is ideal for a culinary professional who is passionate about crafting delicious food experiences ranging from daily café service to hosting elevated board dinners, golf brunches, and special events. The Catering Chef will oversee all culinary operations including food quality, presentation, customer service, and financial performance of both the café and catering programs. With a high volume of annual catering events and a steady summer catering business, this position offers a balanced schedule primarily during daytime hours, allowing for a healthy work-life integration. The Catering Chef will manage a small team of café associates, ensuring a smooth and exceptional experience for guests while maintaining strict food safety, inventory, and operational standards. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on innovation, hospitality, and building strong client relationships through exceptional food offerings. The position offers a competitive salary range of $50,000 to $52,000 annually, along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, 401K, and paid time off. Job Requirements

  • 2+ years of culinary management experience
  • Hands-on chef experience
  • Extensive catering experience
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to manage food cost controls
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Proficiency with computer applications including MS Office
  • ServSafe Certification preferred

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years of culinary management experience
  • Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations
  • Hands-on chef experience is required
  • Extensive catering experience is required
  • High volume batch cooking and complex food service operations experience is preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
  • ServSafe Certification is preferred
  • Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products including Excel

Job Duties

  • Provides frontline culinary resources and support
  • Assists with food cost control, menu planning, purchasing, and ensures food quality guidelines are followed
  • Assists with planning and creating menus
  • Produces and executes catering events
  • Rolls out new culinary programs in conjunction with marketing and culinary team
  • Assists with managing cost controls and controlling expenditures for the account
  • Performs other duties as assigned
