Job Description

School Food Service Management Company is a specialized organization dedicated to providing high-quality food services to K-12 educational institutions. With a commitment to nutrition, hygiene, and efficient service, the company operates within school districts to ensure that students receive nutritious and appealing meals every school day. Known for its dedication to adhering to national school lunch program standards, the company prioritizes the health and well-being of children while managing operations smoothly across multiple schools. Serving the Fort Lauderdale, FL area, the company employs skilled professionals who are passionate about food service management and education sector requirements.

The role of Chef/Manager in this company is an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals who want to make an impact within the school food service system. This part-time position involves working day shifts from Monday through Friday, with no weekend or holiday demands, which provides a stable work-life balance. The scheduled hours are approximately 6 to 6.5 hours daily, with the possibility of occasional night shifts to support school board catering events, offering some variety in working hours.

As a Chef/Manager, your responsibilities will center on overseeing kitchen operations within K-12 environments, ensuring high-volume food preparation meets both quality and safety standards. Your expertise in cooking and familiarity with high-volume catering will be essential in managing daily meal production and coordinating special catering events for schools. You will be expected to design menu ideas that comply with the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) guidelines, ensuring that meals are not only tasty but also meet stringent nutritional and regulatory requirements.

Safety and cleanliness are paramount in this role, so maintaining strict adherence to all health protocols and ensuring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all kitchen staff will be among your top priorities. You will also be responsible for food ordering, managing inventory, and ensuring efficient resource allocation to avoid waste and maintain operational budgets. Your proficiency with various computer software, including Google Docs and Microsoft Office, will support accurate record-keeping and streamline communications.

The position requires that candidates have or can obtain the necessary documentation to work within school districts, reflecting the sensitive and regulated nature of working in educational settings. Additionally, a ServSafe® certification is mandatory, underscoring the company's commitment to food safety and regulatory compliance. Flexibility to travel throughout the school district is needed to manage multiple kitchen sites effectively.

This role is ideally suited to individuals with prior experience in K-12 school food service and those who thrive in a dynamic environment where adherence to guidelines and quality standards is essential. Joining the School Food Service Management Company as a Chef/Manager means contributing to the health and nutrition of young learners while advancing your career in a respected sector dedicated to community service and food excellence.
