With a focus on customer-centric service and brand loyalty, Sur La Table has built a reputation for exceptional culinary education paired with premium kitchenware offerings. The company operates a number of retail locations and is committed to delivering memorable experiences that combine learning and shopping in an engaging atmosphere.
The role of a Culinary Instructor at Sur La Table involves much more than just teaching cooking classes — it is about representing the brand’s culture and passion through hands-on experiences that inspire customers to return and deepen their culinary skills. The Culinary Instructor is responsible for delivering savory-focused cooking classes that follow established recipes and guidelines to ensure consistency and high quality. They communicate cooking techniques and concepts clearly and encourage participants to build confidence and skill in the kitchen. Additionally, the instructor plays a vital role in driving sales by promoting related retail products and encouraging subsequent class enrollments, thereby contributing to the store’s overall business performance. As a frontline representative, the Culinary Instructor collaborates with the store team to maintain kitchen readiness, uphold sanitation and safety standards, and manage inventory effectively. This position requires someone with a strong culinary background, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for creating a welcoming educational environment. It also includes physical demands such as standing for extended periods, moving around the store, and handling kitchen equipment safely. The Culinary Instructor’s success is measured by customer engagement, class enrollment, sales goals, and positive customer feedback. This position typically requires availability of 12 to 16 hours weekly, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility to adapt to class scheduling demands. The role offers a dynamic opportunity to combine culinary expertise with retail and customer service in a fast-paced, inspiring setting.
