Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years culinary experience
  • Previous leadership role as lead chef or sous chef
  • Ability to multitask effectively under pressure
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Knowledge of NYC Health Department standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and TOAST

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years high-level culinary experience

  • Previous lead chef or sous chef experience

  • Experience in high-volume restaurant or catering environments
  • Thorough understanding of NYC Food Standards

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and TOAST
  • Familiarity with inventory management programs is a plus
  • Schedule flexibility for large events and peak periods

Job Duties

  • Managing a commercial kitchen including staff, product, and inventory
  • Collaborating and problem solving with Executive Director, Director of Events, and Senior Events Manager to develop high-quality culinary experiences
  • Mentoring and motivating interns and early career cooks
  • Leading and motivating the kitchen team
  • Understanding and supporting City Beet Kitchens' mission and working with diverse populations
  • Ensuring high quality food preparation and presentation
  • Budgeting, balancing, and maintaining low food cost
  • Managing and optimizing vendor relationships and pricing
  • Leading the hot line and supervising staff on other stations
  • Maintaining a flexible and responsive attitude towards customers' needs
  • Creating menus, seasonal specials, testing, and developing recipes
  • Staying aware of food and industry trends and new ingredients
  • Handling produce ordering and invoice management
  • Scheduling staff and maintaining kitchen standards consistent with NYC Health Department requirements
  • Creating and updating recipe documentation
  • Adapting to a non-traditional and functional kitchen environment
