Job Description

St. Norbert College (SNC) is a nationally ranked, private, Catholic liberal arts college located in De Pere, Wisconsin. Founded in 1898, the college is rooted in the Norbertine tradition, emphasizing a commitment to community, intellectual development, and spiritual growth. SNC is well-known for its rigorous academic programs, holistic student development, and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment that embodies the Norbertine ideal of communio – one heart, one mind in God. The college prides itself on maintaining a strong ethical framework, mutual respect, and justice in its educational practices and workplace culture. This commitment is reflected in its hiring practices and its supportive community atmosphere, which encourages the personal and professional growth of both students and staff members.

As a vital part of campus life, St. Norbert College's Dining Services program is recognized as Wisconsin's number one college dining program. The program places a high value on excellence in food quality, collaboration among team members, and providing a healthy work-life balance for its staff. Employees benefit from generous paid time off, including 16 paid holidays annually, allowing them to enjoy meaningful careers while maintaining time for their personal lives. The Dining Services team serves a diverse and dynamic campus community, offering a wide range of high-quality culinary experiences across multiple dining venues including Michels Commons, Bemis Catering, Phil's, Ed's, the Kress Inn, and the St. Norbert College Child Care Center.

The Chef position at St. Norbert College is a crucial role within this dynamic Dining Services team. This full-time, non-exempt position typically requires working scheduled hours Monday through Friday, with shifts from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm or 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Scheduling may vary according to business demands and the academic semester calendar, including rotating weekends—every third weekend—and participation in an on-call rotation every ninth weekend.

In this role, the Chef will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals that meet the nutritional needs and expectations of the college community. They will follow standardized recipes and production sheets for multiple dining operations, ensuring accuracy in portion control through precise measuring and weighing of ingredients. Food safety and proper inventory management are also top priorities, requiring chefs to consistently store and rotate inventory in accordance with state and federal food safety regulations. Chefs will be tasked with maintaining detailed daily food usage records while leading and delegating food preparation, cooking, and cleaning duties among team members including Prep Cooks, Kitchen Assistants, and student or pool employees.

This position offers an opportunity to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment that values strong communication skills, professionalism, and leadership. The Chef will be a model of positive work ethic and productivity, fostering an environment that supports the successful delivery of exceptional dining experiences across campus. Being part of the Dining Services team at St. Norbert College means contributing to a broader mission of student well-being and community engagement through food service excellence.
