Job Description
Ellenhorn is a nationally recognized mental health program specializing in the treatment and support of individuals living with mental illness and co-occurring conditions. The organization is committed to an innovative, recovery-oriented model that empowers clients to build meaningful, independent lives within their communities. Ellenhorn operates as a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that focuses on providing thoughtful, client-centered care in a supportive and mission-driven environment. This commitment to holistic wellness and quality care has earned Ellenhorn a respected position within the behavioral health sector, making it a preferred employer for professionals passionate about making a positive impact in mental health treatment and support services.
We are currently hiring two experienced chefs to join our team in Arlington, MA. One position offers a four-day, 10-hour schedule each week, while the other is a three-day, 10-hour schedule, providing flexibility in work hours to accommodate different lifestyles and preferences. The role of Chef at Ellenhorn is vital, as it directly supports the health and well-being of our residents by preparing high-quality, nutritious meals that meet diverse dietary needs. This is an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals who take pride in their work, value consistency, reliability, and teamwork, and are dedicated to contributing to a positive communal living environment.
In this role, the Chef will be responsible for cooking two meals per day along with snacks for approximately 15 to 20 clients and staff members. The ideal candidate is skilled in creating nutritious, well-balanced, and visually appealing meals while adhering to dietary guidelines and nutritional considerations such as accommodating food allergies and specialized dietary needs, including Keto and Metabolic Wellness-inspired cuisine. Beyond meal preparation, the Chef will manage grocery purchasing, oversee food inventory, and maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of kitchen and storage areas. Professionalism and respectful interactions are paramount, as the position requires maintaining appropriate client boundaries within a residential setting.
Ellenhorn values strong interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to its mission and client-centered philosophy, and a collaborative team-oriented mindset. Candidates who demonstrate leadership, professionalism, reliability, creativity, and a consistently positive attitude will excel in this role. Physical demands include the ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, work on one’s feet for extended hours, and operate within time-sensitive environments. A valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable automobile are also necessary. This position pays between $30.00 and $40.00 per hour and offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with matching, paid time off, and a flexible schedule. The Chef positions are in-person roles based at Ellenhorn’s Arlington facility and provide a meaningful chance to contribute directly to individuals' improved quality of life through nutritious food and supportive service.
