We are looking for a Head Chef who shares our passion for creative cooking and is ready to lead our kitchen with creativity, care, and excellence.
Role Summary
The Head Chef is responsible for the overall culinary vision at Great Sage. You will help nurture, build and lead team of cooks, drive menu development, and uphold our commitment to exceptional, plant-based cuisine. This is a hands-on leadership role for a chef who is as comfortable on the line as they are mentoring staff and managing food costs.
Responsibilities
- Lead all kitchen operations, including prep, service, and clean-down, ensuring smooth execution on every shift.
- Develop, test, and seasonally refresh menus that reflect Great Sage's creative philosophy and highlight fresh, local produce.
- Hire, train, schedule, and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and positive team culture.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and consistency across all dishes.
- Manage food costs, waste, and kitchen inventory.
- Ensure full compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations (ServSafe or equivalent).
- Collaborate with front-of-house management to deliver a seamless and memorable guest experience.
- Monitor kitchen equipment and flag maintenance needs promptly.
- Contribute to special events, seasonal tasting menus, and catering as needed.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional culinary experience, with at least 2 years in a senior kitchen leadership role (Sous Chef, Chef de Cuisine, or Head Chef).
- Deep expertise and passion for concept cooking.
- Strong understanding of flavor development, cooking techniques, and seasonal menu design.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a kitchen team.
- Experience managing food costs, ordering, and inventory.
- Knowledge of food safety standards; ServSafe certification preferred.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional training preferred, but not required.
