The role of Gourmet Chef at Giant Eagle's Central Kitchen and Market District is essential to the company's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. This position involves hands-on involvement in all aspects of daily kitchen operations including food preparation, quality control, merchandising, and customer service. Job Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant culinary experience
  • Associates degree desired
  • Serv-Safe Certification a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to maintain strict food safety and cleanliness standards
  • Ability to manage inventory and production tasks
  • Commitment to teamwork and customer service

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in gourmet or high-volume kitchen environments
  • Advanced culinary degree or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Culinary awards or accreditation considered a plus
  • Food safety awareness
  • Effective communication and teaching skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion

Job Duties

  • Support a culture of safety including food safety, Team Member safety and customer safety
  • Learn about food and share food knowledge with Team Members and customers
  • Demonstrate suggestive selling techniques and provide active sampling opportunities
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, and respect for Team Members, Customers, Vendors, and Community
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment meeting Food Safety, Food Holding, Temperature, and OSHA standards
  • Manage inventories weekly and assist with monthly inventory taking
  • Meet or exceed food cost percentage budgets by minimizing waste and following production strictly
