Banner Health is a renowned healthcare organization dedicated to transforming the patient experience and advancing healthcare services. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Banner University Medical Center is one of the organization's key facilities, recognized for its comprehensive and innovative approach to medicine. The medical center is nationally acclaimed as an academic medical hub with over 730 licensed beds, specialized units including the Neuro Trauma Unit, and a rich collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. The hospital is committed to nursing excellence, evidenced by its Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, representing the highest standard for nursing and patient care.
Banner University Medical Center is currently seeking a Certified Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to join its Neuro Trauma Unit located within the Neuroscience Service Line. This service line is distinguished by state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment options such as laser thermal ablation of tumors, awake craniotomies, brainstem lesion surgeries, and endoscopic microsurgery. Serving as the first comprehensive stroke center in Arizona, the unit operates with a multi-disciplinary team approach, involving nurses closely in patient care planning and execution.
As a Patient Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in improving patient outcomes by providing essential care and support directly to patients in the Neuro Trauma Unit. The role involves assisting with daily activities, collecting patient health data, and performing delegated medical procedures under supervision. The work environment is fast-paced yet collaborative, emphasizing strong teamwork and supportive growth opportunities. Many PCAs within this unit progress to become Registered Nurses through the supportive educational pathways offered.
This position offers varied shifts, including day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with required weekend rotations. The role includes premium pay benefits such as a $1 per hour weekend shift differential and an 18 percent night shift differential when applicable. Licensed CNA or LNA holders are eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus, further enhancing the appeal of this opportunity.
The Certified Patient Care Assistant is responsible for direct patient care and various administrative support functions vital to the smooth operation of the unit. Duties include assisting patients with hygiene and mobility, monitoring vital signs and other health indicators, reporting health status changes to licensed professionals, and supporting unit-specific medical procedures. Additional responsibilities encompass clerical duties like managing patient records, facilitating communication, and maintaining unit supplies and equipment.
Ideal candidates will have excellent organizational skills, strong communication abilities, medical terminology knowledge, and computer literacy. The environment demands attention to detail, empathy, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. Banner Health fosters a drug-free workplace, supports diversity, and puts patient-centered care at the core of its mission. If you are motivated to contribute to a renowned neuro trauma care team and grow professionally, this role provides an excellent platform for career advancement in healthcare.
