Job Description
Jackson Memorial Long-Term Care Center is a well-established, non-profit skilled nursing facility located in Miami, Florida. Licensed by the state of Florida, this 180-bed center is one of two skilled nursing facilities owned and operated by Miami-Dade County, Public Health Trust, and Jackson Health System. The center plays a crucial role in assisting Jackson Memorial Hospital by providing specialized long-term care for patients who cannot be easily discharged home or to other community nursing homes. With a strong commitment to compassionate care and rehabilitation, Jackson Memorial Long-Term Care Center offers an environment focused on improving the quality of life for elderly and physically ill residents through professional nursing support and tailored therapeutic activities.
As a full-time evening opportunity, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) role at Jackson Memorial Long-Term Care Center involves working an 8-hour shift from 3 PM to 11:30 PM. This position is classified as Level 3 in the nursing support career ladder, recognizing the complexity and responsibility involved beyond basic nursing assistant duties. CNAs in this role are essential contributors to the healthcare team, tasked with delivering basic yet vital nursing care. Unlike licensed practical or professional nurses, CNAs perform nursing support duties that require more specialized skills and handling of difficult care assignments but do not require advanced nursing licensure.
The CNA will be responsible for providing active clinical and therapeutic care to residents, which includes range of motion exercises, assisting with ambulation, and other activities of daily living (ADLs). The role emphasizes maintaining a clean and orderly environment, ensuring residents have adequate supplies, and promptly responding to their needs with compassion and professionalism. Observing and accurately reporting unusual conditions or incidents to the Charge Nurse is a critical part of the job, contributing to continuous resident safety and care quality. Because the population served primarily consists of elderly residents, sensitivity and respect towards their dignity and rights are paramount, aligning with federal and state regulations protecting long-term care patients from abuse and neglect.
The position also involves active participation in intershift rounds and coordination for residents’ transport to various therapies and appointments. CNAs demonstrate behaviors aligned with the CARE values — Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise — fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes resident well-being and exceptional service. Jackson Memorial Long-Term Care Center supports its employees with comprehensive training and professional development opportunities, ensuring that all CNAs maintain the required certifications, including the Florida Nursing Assistance Certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
This role requires no more than three years of related experience and mandates a high school diploma along with completion of an approved nursing assistant training program. The position is ideal for individuals passionate about elderly care who seek to contribute meaningfully in a reputable health system that values diversity, equal opportunity, and compliance with all legal employment protections. Overall, the CNA role at Jackson Memorial Long-Term Care Center is vital in maintaining the standard of care for one of Miami’s most respected public health nursing facilities, offering both rewarding professional experiences and the opportunity to make a genuine difference in residents’ lives.
