Job Description

Waste Management (WM) is a leading integrated environmental services company in North America dedicated to providing sustainable waste management solutions that protect the environment and support the communities they serve. With over 60,000 employees across many locations and diverse backgrounds, WM prides itself on fostering a welcoming and inclusive culture where every team member is valued and empowered to grow. The company’s mission to "leave the world a better place than we found it" emphasizes sustainability and stewardship, reflecting its commitment to corporate social responsibility and environmental care.

WM offers stable employment opportunities with a clear path for career advancement, backed by comprehensive training programs, education assistance, and ongoing professional development initiatives. These benefits help employees build rewarding careers while contributing meaningfully to a cleaner, greener world.

This posting is for a Commercial Driver position that offers a starting pay rate of $27.50 per hour with the shift to be determined. The role involves operating heavy-duty trucks equipped with various lift attachments depending on the type of waste service, including front, side, or rear-end load trucks. Drivers are responsible for transporting waste or recyclable materials from customer locations to transfer, disposal, or recycling facilities as mandated by legal load capacities.

The Commercial Driver role is critical, requiring the ability to maneuver large containers weighing over 1,000 pounds. Drivers must skillfully navigate high-traffic areas, residential streets, alleys, and congested lots, often performing complex backing maneuvers to ensure safe and efficient collection. The role encompasses different service lines including residential, roll-off, and commercial waste collection.

Residential Drivers primarily collect household waste and recyclables, ensuring safety while operating vehicles in neighborhoods and residential environments. Roll-off Drivers handle the preparation, loading, and transportation of large open-top and compactor containers from customer sites. All driving activities must comply with WM’s Safety and Life Critical Rules, as well as OSHA, DOT, and all relevant federal, state, and local laws.

Key responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-trip inspections using the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR), reporting unsafe conditions or service issues promptly, actively participating in required training sessions, and collaborating with operations management to enhance route efficiency and service quality. Drivers must maintain clear open communication with dispatch and operations regarding any incidents, accidents, service interruptions, or customer concerns.

The position demands physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, talking, and hearing. This role is safety-sensitive and subject to rigorous drug and alcohol testing protocols to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

WM offers an attractive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, short-term disability, 401(k) with company match, stock purchase plans, paid vacation, holidays, and personal days, contributing to the overall well-being and financial security of its employees. Beneficial employee programs such as dependent day care assistance and educational support further enhance the workplace environment and career growth opportunities.

WM’s commitment to people-first values ensures that this role offers more than just a paycheck; it’s an opportunity to be part of a family-oriented culture dedicated to sustainability, community, and personal development. If you are an experienced commercial driver who values safety, quality service, and environmental responsibility, WM invites you to apply to join their team and help drive a sustainable tomorrow.
