Job Description
The Birmingham YARD, part of Buckhead Atlanta's robust logistics network, is located in Birmingham, AL, and is a key facility in managing daily delivery routes within this region. This establishment specializes in efficiently operating a cross-dock distribution system that ensures timely transportation and delivery of products. The Birmingham YARD is recognized for its commitment to maintaining high safety standards and excellent customer service, supporting the broader operations that contribute to the smooth functioning of supply chains in the area. This location requires its employees, specifically drivers, to reside near or within the Birmingham area to maintain close proximity for operational readiness and swift route management.
The driver role at Birmingham YARD involves running daily delivery routes characterized by frequent stops. Drivers are expected to load packages onto hand trucks and unload products meticulously at each stop, adhering strictly to route sequences designated by the Transportation Department Manager. This position operates within a cross-docking model where drivers pick up loaded trucks from nightly deliveries at the assigned loading docks and return empty trucks back to the lot, ensuring seamless transition between dispatch and delivery. The role also occasionally requires assistance with loading trucks, palletizing products, and performing various duties assigned by supervisors or managers to support the logistics team’s overall efficiency.
Drivers employed at the Birmingham YARD are responsible not only for the physical handling and transportation of goods but also for maintaining impeccable customer relations. They must verify delivery of items with customers, obtaining proper signatures and resolving discrepancies by contacting management when necessary. Handling customer complaints professionally and reporting any delivery errors or returns are integral parts of the responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction and uphold the company’s reputation. Safety is paramount; therefore, drivers must correctly operate company equipment, comply with written safety rules, and perform pre- and post-trip inspections in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies.
This role demands physical stamina as drivers frequently lift, push, or move products weighing from 1-75 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds, and perform tasks requiring bending, twisting, and reaching up to 72 inches to handle pallets and hand carts. The job entails working in various weather conditions and involves a schedule that includes overtime, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. Given the technical and customer service aspects combined with the physical demands, the driver position at Birmingham YARD suits individuals who are dependable, safety-conscious, and customer-oriented.
This is a full-time employment opportunity focused on providing essential delivery services with a clear emphasis on route efficiency, safety compliance, and excellent customer interaction. Candidates are expected to hold a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and possess a clean driving record, emphasizing the role’s critical requirement for responsible driving habits. Additionally, the job offers an engaging work environment where team collaboration and operational effectiveness are prioritized, making it an excellent career path for those interested in logistics and transportation within the Birmingham area.
