The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice is a critical role that ensures timely and safe delivery of products essential to American businesses and consumers. This role offers a competitive average annual salary of approximately $91,000, with pay determined by cases delivered, miles driven, stops made, and dispatch fees. Drivers typically start their shifts during the night, between 9 PM and 2 AM depending on the assigned route, and work primarily on single-day layover routes. The position requires adherence to federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and compliance with company standards for safety and professionalism. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of the food distribution system and the company’s reputation as a reliable service provider. The CDL-A Driver will be responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries, including over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or ged
  • 6+ months commercial driving experience
  • valid cdl-a license
  • minimum age of 21 years
  • meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • have or be able to obtain valid current dot health card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and other equipment to move and stack product cases and freight

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 6+ months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Checks and completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money (cash or checks) where required and loads customer returns on to trailer
  • Ensures that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
