Employees are given substantial growth opportunities in a vital sector that supports America’s food system.

The current opening is for an Entry Level Driver Trainee position, which is pivotal for individuals seeking to launch their careers in commercial driving within the food distribution industry. This role is designed to train and develop new drivers, providing hands-on experience driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local runs, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Trainees are expected to complete all routes safely, adhering strictly to company policies and the regulations set by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Communication and professionalism with customers, vendors, and co-workers are essential aspects of the role to ensure excellent service delivery and operational efficiency. Trainees will participate in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, documenting their learning progress and practical experiences comprehensively.

As a Driver Trainee, the individual will ride along with a driver trainer, assisting in deliveries, performing necessary safety inspections, and learning all aspects of commercial vehicle operation and freight handling. Trainees will be responsible for performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, adhering to DOT safety guidelines, ensuring freight is correctly loaded and secured, delivering orders according to scheduled routes, unloading products, and managing paperwork, including verification of deliveries and collection of payments where applicable. The role also involves maintaining cleanliness and order in the vehicle and operational areas and completing all compliance documentation accurately. Trainees will cultivate skills essential for safe truck driving, freight management, and customer service, supporting the company’s mission to deliver quality food products efficiently and safely.

This position offers a competitive daily pay rate of $400, a $2,500 sign-on bonus (with eligibility criteria), and an attractive schedule of 4 to 5 days per week, Monday through Saturday. The role may involve local routes as well as occasional overnight trips, providing varied and practical experience in the food distribution logistics field. Through this opportunity, candidates can benefit from a supportive team environment and the chance to grow within a reputable company noted for its commitment to equal employment opportunity and diversity.
