The Driver, Formula CDL-A position is a vital role within this organization, responsible for the transportation and delivery of food and food service products using tractor trailers or straight trucks. This role involves both intrastate and interstate routes, including solo and team routes with out-of-state layovers twice per week, necessitating a driver who is comfortable crossing state lines with no restrictions on the commercial driver's license (CDL). The routes are supported by newer, automatic transmission-equipped trucks and require familiarity with ramp work, touch freight, and the handling of breakdown mixed pallets. The minimum weekly pay guarantees $1,540 when on route, demonstrating a commitment to fair compensation that reflects the essential nature of this job.

Drivers in this role are the face of PFG Customized Distribution to their customers, tasked not only with delivering goods on time and in good condition but also with building lasting relationships by providing professional, courteous service. Key responsibilities include performing required safety inspections pre- and post-trip, adhering strictly to Department of Transportation regulations, and maintaining accurate and legible documentation associated with the freight. Drivers are also responsible for ensuring proper loading and unloading of products, performing damage control and quality checks, and securing freight and vehicles upon delivery and at the end of shifts.

The position demands a high level of professionalism and a keen commitment to safety, as well as the ability to handle physical aspects of the work, such as using equipment to move products weighing from 10 to 90 pounds. Additionally, drivers must complete all necessary paperwork accurately, maintain housekeeping conditions in trucks and trailers, and participate as team members supporting the company’s objectives. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
  • six months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL-A license
  • must be 21 plus years of age
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • clean Motor Vehicle Report for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • attains or has valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • performs all required safety checks including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of loaded products
  • checks and completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • moves tractor to loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined delivery schedule
  • unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • performs damage control checks on items, scans and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • collects money where required and secures trailer doors
  • ensures tractor, trailer and freight are locked and secured
  • unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • completes daily record of hours of service and enters log in accordance with regulations
  • performs general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area
  • secures all equipment and completes paperwork at end of shift
  • performs other related duties as assigned
