Job Description
US FOODS is one of the largest foodservice distributors in the United States, dedicated to delivering quality products and reliable service to a diverse customer base including restaurants, healthcare facilities, and hospitality providers. Known for its robust culture and commitment to employee growth, US FOODS offers extensive opportunities for career advancement through ongoing job skills and leadership development training. The company prides itself on fostering a safe work environment supported by strong local leadership teams who prioritize the success and well-being of their employees.
US FOODS is currently seeking CDL-A Delivery Truck Drivers to join their team and become an integral part of their delivery operations. This role is ideal for drivers eager to challenge themselves while pursuing growth opportunities and enjoying a supportive company culture. The position begins with a training base pay rate of $33.43 per hour. Following training, driver compensation shifts to a component-based pay structure that factors in miles driven, cases delivered, and stops made, ensuring competitive earnings that recognize productivity. Drivers also receive hourly pay during any downtime.
This delivery role primarily involves handling local and layover routes with routes assigned based on driver tenure, allowing for fair bidding opportunities. Key features of the job include working with customer orders that are pre-picked and placed on plastic pallets for easy unloading, using route trailers fully equipped with liftgates and powered pallet jacks to facilitate smooth handling of freight. Delivery routes usually start between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM, accommodating four- and five-day workweeks with consecutive days off to support work-life balance. Additional opportunities include paid incentives for extra work on the fifth and sixth days.
Driver responsibilities include performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and adhering strictly to safety protocols. Physical demands require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling products weighing 20 to 80 plus pounds multiple times per shift. Drivers must also be comfortable operating in a variety of weather conditions with frequent stops during routes. This role values attention to safety and the ability to communicate clearly in English to understand traffic signs, respond to official inquiries, and complete necessary documentation.
To qualify, candidates must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid CDL Class A license with required endorsements and DOT qualifications issued from their state of residence, and have a minimum of six months commercial driving experience—preferably with a year in the foodservice industry. Ability to operate manual transmissions is preferred and may be required in some locations. Drivers must also register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse to comply with Department of Transportation regulations.
US FOODS offers comprehensive benefits beginning day one, including medical, dental, vision coverage, 401(k) plans, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, life insurance, paid parental leave, and more. These benefits, combined with a strong safety culture and supportive leadership, create an ideal environment for professional growth and job satisfaction. US FOODS encourages drivers to join its family and embark on a rewarding career path in the food distribution industry where their efforts are valued and rewarded.
