Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a subsidiary of Performance Food Group, is a leading broadline distributor dedicated to supplying a wide range of food products to local businesses, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on more than just delivery; it builds strong partnerships with its customers through a knowledgeable team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who offer valuable advice on menu development, product selection, operational strategies, and overall business improvement. This commitment to service excellence helps independent restaurant owners and other clients achieve their business aspirations while ensuring they receive high-quality food products efficiently and reliably.

The position offered is for a CDL-A Driver, a pivotal role in the food supply chain responsible for ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food-service products. This extraboard position requires frequent travel to cover paid time off and call-offs, with all mileage, per diem, and hotel accommodations covered by the company. Drivers will operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, delivering and unloading food products in compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies. The average annual pay for this position exceeds $114,000, reflecting the essential nature and demands of the job.

Starting from day one, employees enjoy comprehensive benefits including free uniforms and an annual safety boot allowance, alongside health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and opportunities for career growth. The company fosters a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace environment where recognition and rewards are integral to the culture.

As the face of the company, CDL-A Drivers do more than deliver goods; they develop and maintain exceptional relationships with customers by interacting professionally, answering inquiries accurately and promptly, and ensuring products arrive in perfect condition and on schedule. Their duties include performing mandatory safety checks and inspections on vehicles and trailers, adhering strictly to safety and DOT rules, securing loads, handling customer returns meticulously, and ensuring all delivery documentation is completed accurately. Additionally, they perform housekeeping tasks to keep equipment and trailers clean and organized and are responsible for recording their hours of service in compliance with federal and company requirements.

This role demands physical capability such as the ability to hand-lift freight ranging from 10 to 35 pounds, and in some cases up to 90 pounds, using various equipment like lift gates and two-wheelers. Successful candidates must possess a valid CDL-A license, be at least 21 years old, maintain a clean driving record, pass drug tests, background checks, and a road test, and hold or obtain a DOT Health Card. Preferred candidates bring experience in foodservice or beverage delivery, familiarity with onboard computers and electronic logging systems (such as PeopleNet), and customer service skills.

Joining Performance Foodservice means becoming part of a dedicated team that not only delivers essential goods across America but actively supports the vitality of local culinary and food service businesses. The role offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package while contributing to a mission of nourishing communities and empowering small business owners.
